Food Grade Closed-Cell Silicone Sponge Supplier and Manufacturer
At Advanced Materials, we manufacture and supply high‑quality closed‑cell silicone sponge products designed for use in food and drink, and pharmaceutical environments. Our food grade sponge meets stringent international safety standards and is engineered for excellent performance in hygienic processing applications.
FDA-approved closed cell silicone sponge
Our closed-cell food grade sponge (FGS) material has been manufactured and trusted for over 20 years, proven in industries where hygiene, temperature resistance and compliance are critical.
If you’re specifying silicone rubber for food contact applications, Advanced Materials supplies UK-manufactured, regulatory compliant food grade silicone rubber extrusions with full traceability. To discuss your project or request certified samples, contact our experienced team today.

Key Properties of Food Grade Sponge
Our closed cell silicone sponge:
- is compliant with FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, BfR XV and EC 1935 2004 silicone regulations, making them ideal for use in food processing machinery
- can be extruded as strips, cord and basic profile shapes, offering greater flexibility and versatility to our customers
- provides excellent vibration damping, cushioning and long-term durability
- can be compressed to make seals, even against liquids or rain. The materials exhibit a low degree of moisture absorption, even after prolonged periods of immersion
- is customisable, available in white or pale pastel pigmentation
- is available in minimum runs (ten metres)
- is manufactured in the UK, at our Littlehampton facility, under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and Good Manufacturing Practice controls, with full traceability.

Temperature Resistance of Closed Cell Silicone Sponge
FGS20 silicone sponge offers a standard operating temperature range from-60°C to +200°C, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications. For environments requiring higher heat resistance, a heat stabiliser can be added to produce HTFGS20, which performs up to +250°C.
Metal Detectable Food Grade Sponge Option
A metal detectable version of our FGS product range, which is still FDA compliant, is also available, frequently supplied in a blue colour for food processing lines. Our metal detectable food grade sponge is manufactured with a specialist additive that gives it magnetic properties. This ensures that, if a fragment enters a food line, it can be quickly identified by magnets or standard detection equipment, reducing contamination risks.
This clip shows how magnets interact with the sponge, making detection straightforward and reliable.
Long-Term Stability of Food Grade Sponge
Our fully post-cured sponge is tested for ageing resistance and retains its properties in storage. With a typical shelf life of 25 years when stored correctly, it reduces the risk of material expiry and gives you confidence in forward planning and long-term supply.
